Advocates for Auto Safety during Pregnancy (AASP) is a new organization just getting started by victims, advocates, researchers and others. Our Mission is to advocate and improve automobile safety for pregnant women and their babies through public education, advocacy and research and to provide support for families and individuals impacted by a pregnancy related crash.

We are not yet incorporated, but we welcome inquiries from potential future members, sponsors and other interested persons. Please use our feedback survey form to tell us why you are interested in our organization or the Share-a-story questionnaire to tell us your own story of a pregnancy-related crash.

Pregnancy-related crashes occur at alarmingly high frequencies but because such cases are poorly documented and seldom reported in crash and public health statistics, little has been done to address the problem. However, it has been shown that:

  • Motor vehicle injuries are the leading cause of maternal and fetal injury death, maternal injury hospitalizations and probably maternal injury ED visits.

  • There are about 5 times as many fetal deaths due to pregnancy related crashes then there are infant motor vehicle related deaths.

  • It is estimated that about 4% of all births or about 160,000 births per year are involved in utero in a police reported crash.

  • This is 7 times the number of infants 0-1 in crashes each year reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

As we grow, this page will eventually contain other links describing our:
